Darrell Smalley is the Pittsburgh Office Managing Partner for Ernst & Young LLP, with 29 years of public accounting experience, 25 of which have been in state and local taxation. He was admitted to the firm in July 2010. He serves as the US-Central Region Energy Tax Market Sector Leader. In this role, Darrell is responsible for tax market service needs of the region's power & utilities, oil and gas, and mining and metals accounts.

Darrell serves as a global client service partner in the energy sector. In this role, he is responsible for understanding client business agendas, aligning EY services to meet client needs and providing exceptional client service. This includes the firm’s, Advisory, Tax, Transaction Support and Assurance services.

Additionally, Darrell serves clients through assessing the impact of global incentives for strategic investments and imperatives and working with clients and governmental agencies to secure incentives. These strategic global imperatives may include significant capital expansions; redeployment of equipment; employment, retention and training programs; research, development and innovation initiatives; sustainability energy efficiency and CleanTech investments, and transaction-based activities.

Darrell’s tax clients operate across many sectors. Prior to joining EY US, Darrell served in a similar role with Arthur Andersen.

Previously, Darrell served as the Central East Strategic Growth Market Leader for the US firm, focusing on understanding and responding to the business needs of high-growth entrepreneurial organizations. Darrell also served as the Codirector of the Pittsburgh office EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ program. Entrepreneur Of The Year is recognized as one of the most prestigious business award programs in the country and celebrates the country’s most innovative business leaders.

Darrell Smalley holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from La Salle University. He is a Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI). Beyond his professional pursuits, Darrell is actively engaged in his community through involvement with The Advanced Leadership Institute, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The POISE Foundation, and the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
